Navigate and collapse scenes

Jump to a scene and hide its content temporarily while you work elsewhere.

Use the Structure sidebar to find Outside without scrolling through the whole script.

  1. Open the Structure sidebar.
  2. Find the scene under its act, if your script uses acts.
  3. Click the scene’s numbered title.

The editor focuses its heading. The sidebar highlights the scene containing the current cursor position. When a page indicator is available, it shows the scene’s starting page, such as p. 2.

Scene titles come from their headings. An empty heading appears as Untitled scene until you write its text.

  1. Click Outside in the sidebar to make it the active scene.
  2. Beside its heading in the editor, use the arrow, Collapse scene.

The heading stays visible. Its body is hidden, and Scene content is collapsed appears beside the heading. The hidden portion ends at the next Scene or Act heading.

This gives you room to concentrate on another scene. It does not delete the hidden text or change the script’s structure.

Use the same arrow beside the collapsed heading, now labelled Expand scene. The scene’s body becomes visible again.

The Structure sidebar remains a list of scenes grouped by act. Collapsing a scene’s body in the editor does not hide its entry from that list.
